Professional Editing for Scholars Looking to Get Published or Promoted.
Are you struggling to feel confident about your manuscript or job application?
Are you feeling suffocated by imposter syndrome?
Are you confused about whether your arguments are clear, concise, and publication-ready?
Perhaps you are unsure where to begin with your book proposal or tenure material?
I understand because I’ve been there! I wasn’t always a department chair and journal editor, I was on the job market numerous times and sharpened my writing skills as I wrote my first book. As a journal editor, I learned what academic publishing looks behind the scenes and what it takes to get your paper published.
Now that I’ve published four books, numerous articles, and served as editor of two academic journals, I know what it takes to be successful. Through Anchor Line Academic Editing, I bring my approach to scholars facing these same challenges to make your academic journey feel less isolating and uncertain. Take a deep breath and let me help you!
Think of me as your go-to editorial partner. I am here to guide you through your academic next-step while also offering editing services with hands-on developmental feedback and line editing to shore up your work and get you closer to publication, promotion, or that new job.
I offer professional academic editing services grounded in a deep understanding of scholarly writing and publishing standards. From serving on admissions and job search committees, I also know what makes a compelling graduate school or job application. Let me help ensure your work meets the highest academic expectations, even under tight deadlines.
Here are some of the things I can help with:
Developmental, big-picture editing to strengthen your argument.
Copy-editing to ensure your submission is clean and formatted correctly.
Reference work so you don’t have to worry about inconsistencies.
Proofreading to guarantee a polished final submission.

About Me.
My name is Kristen Barber, Ph.D. I am a researcher, writer, and editor. I founded Anchor Line Academic Editing to support academics—or aspiring academics—like you. As a professor for many years, I have helped students successfully apply to graduate school, reviewed numerous job application packages to help scholars refine their CVs, cover letters, and other job materials; and in my role as department chair, I have mentored faculty through tenure and promotion. I have also served as a journal editor, twice, in the humanities and social sciences. I take what I have learned about the ins-and-outs of academic publishing and the academy as a profession to create a approach to help others succeed in this often intimidating landscape.
I take great pride in supporting hardworking scholars, especially those from marginalized backgrounds and who are doing cutting-edge work that might struggle to find a home in mainstream outlets. Overall, I am here to provide you the professional support you may be missing.
